Field services
Out in the field, where the job actually is.
Radio networks and aerial imaging for farms, ranches, remote sites, real estate, or anyone who wants an independent communications backbone.
Networks
LoRa and WiFi networks
Long-range, low-power links for places past the end of the cell map, or when you want to be in control of your connections without paying to run fiber. We can hand the network off to you, or keep managing it.
- Step 1
Design
We meet, you tell us what your network needs are, then we figure out how to meet them. You're welcome to be as involved as you would like. At the end, we give you a price.
- Step 2
Installation
We can either give you clear, straightforward instructions to do the installation yourself, we can come oversee it, or we can perform the installation, up to you.
- Step 3
Handoff or continued management
If you want to manage it on your own from then on, you totally can! It's your hardware, you paid for it. If you want us to keep an eye on things, we can do that too. Whichever you pick, we're always happy to help if you need us later on.
LoRa or WiFi?
While they're both ways of sending information by radio, they each have their strengths and weaknesses.
| Feature | LoRa | WiFi |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Texts from anywhere on your property/properties to anywhere else, or location tracking, sensor data collection, or other low-bandwidth applications. | Internet access, phones and laptops, cameras and video. |
| Range | Usually we can comfortably cover at least a million square feet (92900 m²), and often far more at a single site. Site-to-site links can be over 70 miles / 112 km with favorable terrain. | Up to about 100 m / 300 ft for phone and computer connections, but often many miles / kilometers for point-to-point links. |
| Speed | Low, usually slower than dialup. Not good for more than small text bursts. | High, enough to comfortably make voice and video calls, browse the web, or stream videos. |
| Power | So low you can run it on a cheap solar yard light if you really wanted to, making portable radios comfortably last days or even weeks, and backbone radios last through winter storms with just solar panels and batteries. | Higher. You could run it on solar, but if you have power at the site, most people choose to wire it up directly to that. |
| Cost per site | Usually around $100 for fixed infrastructure, including solar power. | Generally under $300 for fixed infrastructure, more if you need a solar setup. |
| Licensing | License-free radio bands. | License-free radio bands. |
Real-world range depends on terrain, antennas and mounting height. We confirm it for your site during design.
